The Infiniti G37 Convertible, like its coupe sister, is powered by the 3.7-litre VQ-series V6 with VVEL (for Variable Valve Event and Lift) rated at 320PS. The engine is backed by a choice of an electronically controlled seven-speed automatic transmission with magnesium paddle shifters or a responsive close-ratio six-speed manual transmission.

The G37 Convertible’s inviting interior includes standard leather seats, an available Bose® open air sound system that dynamically changes equalization based on outside noise, roof position and vehicle speed, an adaptive dual zone climate control system that adjusts fan speed in accordance to roof position and vehicle speed, and available climate-controlled seats that provide both heating and cooling functions. Uniquely, a rear parking camera is standard.

Seductive Styling Inside and Out

The Infiniti G37 Convertible maintains a coupé-like silhouette with the top up through use of a special three-piece “clamshell” retractable hardtop, which allows for use of a shorter rear overhang and low boot lid. Compared to G Coupé, the Infiniti G37 Convertible utilizes all-new body panels from the A-pillar back, along with a 28mm wider overall width, broader rear track and modified rear suspension.

The automatic top opening/closing sequence takes approximately 30 seconds from start to finish. The open/close switch is located on centre console, just behind the gearshift lever.

Along with its G Coupé-like proportions, the Infiniti G37 Convertible offers signature Infiniti styling cues such as flowing front curves, a wave-style aluminium bonnet, expressive front face with double-arch grille and L-shaped High-Intensity Discharge (HID) bi-xenon headlights with integrated fog lamps. At the rear, the taillights are unique to the Infiniti G37 Convertible, incorporating an inner “circle of light” for added distinction at night. The chrome rear boot-lid finisher incorporates both an integrated high-mount brake-light and the small camera for the standard parking monitor system.

Infiniti’s advanced “self-healing” Scratch Shield paint is standard with two Infiniti G37 Convertible-exclusive colours, Midnight Garnet and Pacific Sky.

The interior design combines sophistication, craftsmanship and thoughtfulness with unique, available systems created to enhance the open-air driving experience. The driver-oriented cockpit features an Infiniti signature “double wave” instrument panel design with Infiniti electroluminescent instrumentation with white-and-violet illumination, integrated multi-function information drive computer display and analogue Infiniti clock. The double hand-stitched leather-covered steering wheel is designed for maximum comfort and usability, with standard wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls. Genuine magnesium paddle shifters are standard for the 7-speed automatic transmission.

Special “Silk Obi” aluminium interior trim, inspired by fine Japanese silk, is located across the instrument panel, on the centre console and on the door panels in a shape redolent of Japanese spears. Also available are two choices of genuine wood trim. Leather-upholstered seating is standard and is offered in three colours shared with the Coupé – Graphite (black), Wheat and Stone – and a fourth that will be unique to the Convertible.

Heated 8-way power driver/8-way front passenger seats are standard, with climate-controlled seats (with heating and cooling functions) available as an option. A power walk-in device with position memory provides easy access to the 2nd row seats (the front seats move forward automatically at the touch of a button to allow passengers into the rear seats). A rear wind deflector helps reduce wind turbulence when the top is down.

The Infiniti G37 Convertible’s long list of comfort and convenience features includes standard Infiniti Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition and an Adaptive Dual Zone Climate Control System includes an advanced air conditioning system that adjusts to provide optimal comfort with the top up or down.

Two audio systems are available, starting with a standard 6-speaker AM/FM/6CD system with MP3 playback capability, Radio Data System (RDS) and centre console-mounted auxiliary input plus 7-inch color display. The second option is a 13-speaker Infiniti Bose® open air sound system that automatically optimizes EQ settings for open/closed top positions. The system’s special Bose® Personal Headrest Speakers, mounted in the front seat headrests, enable superior front audio quality regardless of the top position.

Liberating Dynamic Performance

Like the G Coupé and G37 Sedan, the new Infiniti G37 Convertible’s outstanding dynamic performance credentials start with a combination of its advanced FM platform and award-winning V6 engine. Every Infiniti G37 Convertible comes equipped with a standard 3.7-litre V6 engine with VVEL (for Variable Valve Event and Lift), rated at 320PS.

The VVEL system combines hydraulic-controlled variable valve timing and electronically controlled variable valve lift on the intake side, helping to improve not only performance and response but also emissions and fuel efficiency (over a non-VVEL system). It also provides cleaner emissions by allowing for quicker warm-up of the catalyst and by stabilizing combustion when the engine is cool.

The Infiniti G37 Convertible is available with a choice of an electronically controlled 7-speed automatic transmission with manual mode, downshift rev matching, Drive Sport (DS) mode and Adaptive Shift Control (ASC) that allows for quicker shifts in sporty driving situations and magnesium paddle shifters; or a responsive, lightweight close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission.

The G37 Convertible’s responsive handling and ride performance is provided by its advanced FM (Front Mid-ship) platform design, which optimizes front/rear weight balance and creates a rigid, stable foundation for the 4-wheel independent suspension. The front suspension is a double-wishbone design, with a single pivot lower wishbone and a long upper link. The multi-link rear suspension separates the shock absorbers and springs, locating the shock absorber inline with the wheel center. These designs help minimise alignment changes and reduce suspension friction for nimble handling and smooth riding characteristics.

“Celebrating 20 years of Infiniti is an important milestone and we wanted to do something truly unique and representative of the Infiniti brand to commemorate this occasion,” said Wendy Durward, Director of Infiniti Canada. “The intricate, beautiful design is an expression of Infiniti’s commitment to Inspired Performance in everything we do.”

Infiniti’s partner and inspiration for the G Coupe Anniversary design concept, Cirque du Soleil, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and was also present at the unveiling.

“Both Infiniti and Cirque du Soleil are celebrating important anniversaries this year and it was incredible to be able to collaborate on a unique and special project such as this,” said Ryan Sandilands, Corporate Alliances Senior Director with Cirque du Soleil. “Guests at some upcoming Cirque du Soleil shows in Canada will be able to see this truly incredible vehicle for themselves as it will be displayed at select shows.”

Heidi Taillefer was one of several artists asked to submit a design concept for the exterior of the Infiniti G Coupe. No structural changes could be made so the car could remain safe and driveable, and able to be auctioned off for charity at a later date. Heidi’s inspired design “Ligozzi” was ultimately selected and she spent much of August and early September painting the vehicle.

“I was very excited to be asked to participate in this project and using the G Coupe as a canvas has been an amazing challenge, “said Taillefer. “With Cirque as inspiration, there was a freedom to explore unique, juxtaposing influences for the design. I’m very proud of how my design looks on the actual vehicle, and I think it’s an incredible tribute to the anniversary of both Infiniti and Cirque du Soleil.”

The CRD engineers and designers utilize state-of-the-art CAD technology in all their projects. Models are built in closely guarded secure areas with access only for authorized personnel. The same security measures are in place for the state-of-the-art workshop where the prototypes are built and where the finished models are digitized for manufacturing the required tools and dies.

CRD has the latest production facilities at its disposal and provides storage space for more than 1,000 vehicles, guarded 24 hours a day. The CRD logistics center manages the smooth transport of vehicles to the customers’ distribution centers or directly to the respective authorized dealers.

For the development of complete engines or performance kits including all necessary testing and calibrating procedures CRD uses latest-generation stationary and dynamic test benches.

Another CRD specialty is the company-own proving ground that features among others a skid pad, a shake test track with Belgian Block cobblestone and a certified configurable noise measuring track. This makes CRD also an ideal partner for the ECE homologation of a wide range of vehicles that we conduct for automobile manufacturers from around the world.

At the Frankfurt International Auto Show IAA 2009 the engineering, design and marketing firm is present with its own stand hall 5. From here CRD will make and maintain contact to other exhibiting automobile manufacturers and importers.

For 2010, changes to FX include standard Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System on all models, the addition of a standard USB Connection Port for iPod® and other compatible devices, the addition of a 2.0GB Music Box® hard drive to the Bose® Premium Audio system (on vehicles without navigation) and simplified exterior/interior color combinations. FX’s available Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System has been enhanced for 2010 with the addition of an in-dash single disc DVD audio/video drive, streaming audio via Bluetooth®, Zagat® Restaurant Guide and XM NavWeather® (along with the previously available XM NavTraffic®).

Under the dramatically styled FX exterior, all models are equipped with a standard 7-speed automatic transmission, double-wishbone front/multi-link rear suspension and large 4-wheel disc brakes. FX also offers available Continuous Damping Control (CDC)®, Rear Active Steer, Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA) and 21-inch super lightweight aluminum-alloy wheels designed by Enkei. Solid magnesium paddle shifters are available on the FX50 in the Sport Package.

Inside, the FX interior provides a warm, inviting environment highlighted by a driver-oriented cockpit with intuitive controls, available sport seating and advanced audio, navigation and technology ranging from an 11-speaker Bose®-developed audio system to Infiniti Intelligent Key, available Intelligent Cruise Control (Full-Speed Range) and available Around View™ Monitor system.

Available FX driving aids include Distance Control Assist (DCA), which helps reduce the burden of driving in heavy traffic by intuitively prompting the driver to release the throttle and apply the brakes to maintain distance to the vehicle ahead; Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) systems, which helps the driver respond to an unintended lane departure; and Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW), which helps alert the driver that a collision may be imminent and provides automatic braking to help reduce the risk of injury if a collision is unavoidable.

Infiniti’s hybrid system, developed solely within Infiniti’s parent group, is a single electric motor/twin clutch arrangement. Innovatively, the first clutch is installed between the naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 and the electric motor. The result of this configuration, where all components act on a single prop shaft to the rear differential, is a consistent driving feel under all conditions with linear performance and the “direct responses” that the engineers sought.

The electric motor acts as both propulsion unit, boosting the V6 in “power assist” mode when maximum acceleration is required, and also as a generator. Along with charging the battery in the normal way, the motor recovers energy otherwise lost during deceleration and braking.

The M Hybrid can also run solely on its electric motor in certain driving conditions, furthering fuel efficiency and optimizing energy usage across the widest possible range of driving conditions. Details of driving range, performance and transmission will be released later.

As expected of Infiniti, several new technologies are introduced in the new M35 Hybrid, including a “laminated” lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery pack that is the same size as conventional batteries but offers twice the power. Lamination enhances the pack’s cooling performance, while temperature stability is further improved by the use of manganese positive electrodes. An end result of this is exceptional battery reliability.

The M35 Hybrid joins conventional engine-equipped 2011 M versions – including a new high-performance diesel V6 for Western Europe – as the first Ms to be sold across all of Infiniti’s world markets, currently 33 countries. The Anniversary Editions are based on the G Sedan Journey and AWD, G Coupe Journey and G Convertible and come standard with a 3.7-liter V6 engine and 7-speed automatic transmission. Premium and Navigation Packages are included on all of the Anniversary Editions.

The Anniversary Edition Sedans and Coupe also receive the Sport Package and 4-Wheel Active Steer (not available on Sedan AWD). The Convertible is offered with the highly desirable climate-controlled seats.

Each Anniversary Edition comes in a new Graphite Shadow exterior color that was just added for 2010, with the interiors appointed with Monaco Red Leather. The Coupe and Convertible interiors are accented with special Red-toned Maple and the two Sedans have the new Shodo-finish aluminum trim.

Other Anniversary Edition equipment includes special aluminum-alloy wheels, W-rated summer performance tires, Midnight Black grille, unique front chin spoiler or front fascia, sport side sills (Coupe and Convertible) and rear spoiler (except Convertible). The Coupe also receives an updated rear fascia.

“We wanted to ensure that the G Anniversary Editions are the sportiest and most distinctive Infinitis offered,” added Poore. “Though they won’t arrive until April, we wanted to release pricing early to allow interested buyers to reserve the Anniversary Sedan, Coupe or Convertible of their choice before they are all gone.”

FX30dS model which puts the emphasis firmly on driver appeal. The S spec diesel includes 21-inch alloy wheels, sports seats, sports suspension and Rear Active Steering (RAS) – the first time this incisive handling technology has been available in the FX range on anything other than the FX50 flagship.

The FX30d’s engine provides an exceptional breadth of capability. With 238 PS (235 bhp), the power output is among the highest of single-turbo V6 diesel engines. The turbocharger is mounted in the V of the engine which is set at an unusual 65 degree angle to the benefit of balance, reliability as well as packaging efficiency.

The 2010 GT, in either FX30d diesel or FX37 petrol forms, comes fully equipped as standard with paddle-shift 7-speed automatic transmission, 20-inch light alloy wheels, glass sunroof, and more.

The S derivatives ramp up the sporting appeal with powered front sports seats, Continuous Damping Control (CDC) shock absorbers, 21-inch alloy wheels and, on the diesel S and 5.0-litre V8 petrol only, Rear Active Steering (RAS), which enhances both stability and agility. To distinguish the S, the model comes with smoked-glass headlamps and dark chrome exterior air vent and sill strip.

The new Premium grade enhances both GT and S models with features which are often unavailable in rivals. Safety is a particular focus, reinforcing the FX’s highest-possible five-star ranking in the EuroNCAP crash tests. Both GT Premium and S Premium versions of FX30d and FX37 are equipped with key elements of Infiniti’s innovative Safety Shield technology such as Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) with full speed range, Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA), and Forward Collision Warning (FCW).

Perfectly poised on its new 19-inch split-rim 7-spoke graphite-finish alloy wheels, the IPL Concept’s stand-out style is based around a sporting new front-end look. A new bumper section and blacked-out grille and headlight surrounds bring an aggressive new edge to the Cabrio while integrating perfectly with the rest of the design.

Under the bonnet of the IPL G Cabrio Concept is the Infiniti’s 3.7-liter V6 engine which has a seven speed automatic transmission with magnesium paddle shifts, delivering 338 PS, 18 PS more than standard. Due to the increased maximum torque output from 360 to 374 Nm, top speed the IPL G Cabrio concept car is more than 270 km/h, with 0-100 km/h sprint in fewer than 6 seconds.

Launching for the IPL Infinitis in Europe will be decided later after reaction to the G Convertible Concept has been considered.

Infiniti Etherea proposes a bold new approach to the premium compact segment. Its dynamic character and highly sculptural, near mono-volume form provide a silhouette unlike anything currently in the class. It is part elegant coupé, part spacious sedan, part practical hatchback and even part tall crossover. And being an Infiniti, there is also a large helping of sports car in the way it drives.

Etherea is based around an in-house platform and the innovative one electric motor/twin clutch system used in the Infiniti M35h currently going on sale around Europe. Etherea uses highly efficient hybrid drivetrain of a supercharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine developing 245 PS, distributed through the front wheel. The transmission is a continuously variable (CVT) type and, in an Infiniti first, drive is to the front wheels.

Like the M35h, the Etherea hybrid powertrain is designed to use clean electric power more often, for longer periods and at higher speeds than hybrids generally manage, endowing ETHEREA with a hybrid’s advantages out on the open road as well as in busy city streets. This maximizes efficiency and cuts CO2 emissions even further while imposing no compromises on the driving front.

Infiniti Etherea Concept employs independent suspension, regenerative braking, and advanced drive-by-wire electric/hydraulic steering to further enhance the balance between performance and greenness.

Infiniti released an image of the Infiniti JX Concept today, giving the first official glimpse at a new luxury crossover that will join the Infiniti line next Spring. Reinforcing the vehicle’s seven-passenger seating, the photo was launched at exactly 7:07 am.

Infiniti also announced the launch of the “Power of 7″, an innovative social media campaign designed to initiate conversation about the JX Concept in advance of its global reveal at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 18.

The campaign includes a series of seven images that will be distributed exclusively on Facebook every Thursday over the next seven weeks. The Facebook page will include an opportunity to win a trip for two to join Infiniti at the vehicle’s reveal at the Pebble Beach Concours.

“Families don’t have many luxury vehicle options today. The new Infiniti JX will be the 7-passenger antidote to the ho-hum luxury crossovers that are out there right now,” said Ben Poore, vice president of Infiniti Americas.

Infiniti will officially debut the production version of the 2013 Infiniti JX, which goes on sale in the Spring of 2012, at the Los Angeles Auto Show this November.
